Meet Spencer Craig Uphues

We had the absolute pleasure of meeting our son Spencer Craig Uphues on Thursday, February 16th. Although we gave him the opportunity to come on his own, he opted out and we moved forward with a C-section. Just like his brother, he has a big head which caused issues, even with a C-section! He looked just like Marshall with the furrowed brow and big body but upon bringing him home, we've realized he looks just like his momma when I was a baby. He definitely has my nose, dark hair and other similar facial features. We can't get enough of this sweet baby boy...he loves to eat and sleep, and we are so thankful for it!
Born: 2/16 at 5pm  Weight: 8lb 9oz  Height: 20-3/4"
One of the things that makes Mr. Spencer extra special is his middle name, Craig. It was my cousin's name that was like a brother to me growing up, but died tragically in a car accident when we were in high school. We are thrilled to give him the name of a young man that left behind such an amazing spiritual legacy. He is deeply missed and my prayer is Spencer Craig brings honor and respect to his name.
Seeing Spencer for the first time!!!

Already sucking his thumb...he's 5 minutes old. Sigh.

The brothers finally get to meet!

Sweet Spencer, we are so excited to have you in our family! What a blessing you are to us and your family. We are so excited to see what the Lord has planned for you and all the fun you and your brother will have together.

It's been too long...

Seriously, this is embarrassing...my last post was a Part 1 of our fall activities, and I never even posted Part 2. It's not like we haven't been doing anything post-worthy...Christmas, growing a baby, etc. So I thought I would give you a little ditty to tie you over until the new addition arrives this week! Here's our Top 10 happenings over the past couple months.
10) Halloween: Marshall really got into the Trick or Treating spirit this year and although we went through the whole process with him ahead of time, he was still in shock every time he got candy at each house. He would come running back from each door yelling, "I got candy, I got candy!!!"
Marshall, Allie and Camryn - too excited to look at the camera!

9) Tons of fun with playgroup: A super exciting trip to a Richardson Fire Station and a "Happy Birthday Jesus" party in our Christmas jammies!

8) Marshall finally embraced the numbers 3 and 4! He's never been a fan of poor 3 and 4, so when counting he would go straight from 2 to 5. We knew he would come around and after much encouragement over Christmas, he finally did it...just in time for turning 3 soon!

7) In December, Marshall moved to a big boy bed in his big boy room! He did great and still hasn't tried to get out on his own, yay! I'm still working on his new room decor, more pics to come later. One little treasure that's come out of our new bedtime ritual is the "Owl Song." What? You've never heard of it? That's because we had to make it up on the fly one night when Marshall insisted we sing a song about owls. Dad came to the rescue with a little ditty and now it's part of the ritual, it's always the perfect finale after Jesus Loves the Little Children. Never dull, people...never dull.

6) Marshall meets Santa: he was very excited to meet the guy in the big red suit this year. Although he wasn't terribly excited about the camera part...not a huge fan of having his picture taken these days. He was excited about asking Santa for candy for Christmas, yep any toy in the world and he asked for candy - M&Ms to be exact!

5) Christmas 2011: We had a fabulous Christmas this year...so much fun with a 2.5 yr old around! Santa did bring Marshall candy, as well as a balance bike and Batman helmet. Huge hit! We spent Christmas in Tyler with my parents and my sister's family. Marshall had a blast with his cousins, as always, they are a hoot when they're together!

4) Marshall rides a motorcycle (or two): My parents ride motorcycles...a lot! But Marshall had never had a chance to go for a spin around their cul-de-sac. Now that he had his Batman helmet he was finally ready! He was in heaven (as were Gana and Papa)...my husband, not such a fan of the idea. Thanks babe for humoring us all! :)

Riding on a bike pregnant with no helmet, don't tell me mother...oh wait!?!

3) Baby Shower Brunch: My fabulous community group girls, Amanda, Kate and Kim hosted a wonderful baby shower brunch for a small group of family and friends. It was so much fun to have everyone together to celebrate our upcoming arrival. Thank you ladies for such a fun time, y'all are such a HUGE blessing to me!

2) I'm 39 weeks! To celebrate our last weekend as a family of 3, we endured the 30 degree temps to enjoy the blustery trails at the Heard Museum. I'll do anything to make this baby uncomfortable enough to leave my belly, so we'll see if it works. I haven't been good about taking belly pics, so here's one after our frigid trail walk.

1) We get to meet our son on February 16th, if not before! We're still praying for a VBAC and I had some good contractions over the weekend, but I'm obviously finishing this post on Monday morning so no baby yet. We had to schedule a C-section date regardless, due to his size, they won't let me go past my due date. We can not wait to meet this little guy and hold him in our arms, what a blessing he will be. We finally decided on a name last weekend so we're all set. Stay tuned!
